The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Liberties in its  2012 ANNUAL REPORT ON ANTI-CATHOLICISM gives an-overview and timeline of the events during the year and stated that “recent developments offer new evidence that the confrontation between the Catholic Church and the Obama administration is reaching collision course dimensions: Writing for the bishops, Anthony R. Picarello, Jr. and Michael F. Moses listed six objections to the HHS mandate that would force Catholic non-profits to pay for morally objectionable services in their insurance plans. One central objection was the “unprecedented” attempt to redefine religious employers as entities that hire and serve mostly people of their own religion; it would effectively nullify the religious exemption traditionally afforded such institutions as Catholic social service agencies, hospitals and colleges.

Thirty religious non profits including hospitals m charities colleges and Catholic dioceses have filed lawsuits against HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius over the mandate. Most have been dismissed. 29 lawsuits brought by private for-profit businesses  with about 19 plaintiffs awarded temporary injunction relief while their cases are still pending.

Meanwhile Federal lawmakers are seeking a legislative avenue to addresses the issue, More than 100 co sponsors signed on the Heath Care Conscience Rights Act a bill introduced March 4 buy US Reps. Diane Black, R Texas and Jeff Fortenberry, R, Neb and John Fleming, R-LA

So the work is still ongoing and your prayers and penances are sorely needed. Its up to us what happens! Send an email to Congress Contact your representatives in the Senate and House and ask them to overturn the HHS Rule. Link to Action Alert
